Paintings
From Hudson River School Antique Slide Show In
the mid nineteenth century, paintings of the American Wilderness bolstered national
pride both by depicting splendid views of the new nation and as stunning creative
achievements. These paintings were created by a loosely associated group of artists
who began their careers in the Hudson River vicinity.
On
Thursday, September 30, at 1:00 pm a slideshow will be presented
on Paintings from the Hudson River School.
The presentation will concentrate
on major achievements by these artists, but will also explore their Romantic influence
on later generations of American artists.
The program will run about one
hour and afterwards there will be refreshments, coffee, and informal discussions.
The speaker will be antiques writer Bob Jackman.
OPTIONAL:
If you have a Hudson River painting, bring it to the show, and Bob will be
happy to offer comments. Admission is free
